A party ready maxi dress can be perfect for weddings, brunches and any celebrations you may have in the warm months. Dress it up with heels or down with flats, depending on the events. Being petite is not easy to find maxi dresses that fit perfectly without hemming, but the extra effort is totally worth it.
For petite ladies, I suggest choosing maxi dresses with a solid color or with small patterns. You may want to avoid big patterns, because that can make you look even shorter.
Dress: Thrifted from Crossroads Trading Co. (size S, new with tags on).
When I found this maxi dress, it had a tailoring tag on that read “4 inches up”. Bingo – this thrifted maxi dress was hemmed to my height! You bet I felt really lucky that day. Crossroads Trading is one of my favorite secondhand shopping destinations in NYC. I like to check back often just to see what’s new.
If you want to find a maxi dress quickly, check out these beautiful ones currently available from Reformation. For reference, I’m a size 2P or 0/2 at Reformation (my measurement is 32-26-36).
Shoes: Franco Sarto Callan Suede Block Heel in Blush (size 5.5, tts, also comes in red, black, and leopard).
I love blocky heels. Compared to slim heels, they feel sassier, sturdier, and in my eyes, more practical. These heels look well made and are comfortable to walk in. They go with everything in my closet, and I plan to make a lot of use out of them. Franco Sarto is not a sustainability focused brand, but I purchased this pair from NordstromRack after trying them on. Mostly, I buy from secondhand or ethical sources as this is my preference. However, there are times when I do make exceptions for various reasons.
Sunglasses: Miu Miu (old, find the same pair in navy at TheRealReal).
The unique pentagon shape of the lenses really stands out from all the other squares and rounds. Be ready for compliments when you wear them.
Bag: Reformation Open Weave Box Bag.
As summer is fading away, it’s almost time to put away this lovely straw bag. Or maybe there is still time to catch another picnic in the park?
Thank you very much for reading, and I will see you next Friday on the Blog.
