Reusable Face Masks: Functional and Fashionable

Reusable Face Masks: Functional and Fashionable

When face masks become a demanding commodity across the world, the eco-conscious minds can't stop thinking about how much extra waste we are creating everyday due to the pandemic. Unfortunately, in hospitals and high-risk situations this can't be helped, because only disposable medical-grade masks can provide efficient protection against the virus. However, as the number of cases are getting lower in NYC, I'm starting to use eco-friendly alternatives. The good news is that there are many reusable face masks to choose from.

If you are mostly staying at home and practicing social distancing, then you may want to consider a reusable non-medical grade mask. Cloth masks come in pretty colors and patterns, making them both functional and fashionable.

United by Blue

Lastly, I want to review the cloth masks I bought from United by Blue. I ordered mine a couple months ago. They've been sold out twice, so there may be a long wait if you decide to order these. You can get them in a pack of 3 for $20:

These masks are very roomie, slightly too big for my face. To make them fit better, I made a knot on each side of the string.

Masks are final-sale for sanitation reasons. Personally, If I could choose again, I would choose cloth masks that don't have the filter packet. I feel the loose lining makes it less breathable for me because it moves around too much. You can put disposable filters in these masks, but I think that kind of beats the point of having these reusable masks. I might as well use the disposable surgical masks if I feel the need to use a filter. However, everyone's face is different, so maybe you will find them more breathable than I do.

I hope everyone is staying safe and smart by wearing a mask in public. When we have reusable face masks made in pretty prints and soft fabrics, it is easier to see them as an extension of our daily outfit during this time.
