YSL Lipsticks Review & Alternatives

YSL Lipsticks Review & Alternatives

The day before my NYC wedding, I realized that I would need to bring my own lipsticks around for touch-ups. I was worried for a moment since I didn't already have the lip colors for my bridal makeup. This made me go last minute shopping when I was running errands in the city and I bought two YSL lipsticks in red-orange hues. Because I didn't have time for a makeup test with my makeup artist beforehand, I thought it would be better to give her at least two options.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick

My thoughts and tips after wearing it on my wedding in NYC:

  • Long lasting matte color: even after eating and drinking, my lip colors were still vivid. From 7am to 7pm, I only touched up twice.

  • Doesn't smudge easily. I'm not super careful with my makeup, so smudge-resistant products are better for me.

  • Trying on the colors in store is super helpful. This is because the color you see in the tube will likely look different when it's on your lips.

  • The formula doesn't dry out my lips, which is a must for me. I have "No.13 Le Orange".

Similar to a tinted lip balm, this one feels more moisturizing than Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick. I also really loved No. 81 when I tried it on in store, but they were sold out so I got "No. 82 Orange Crepe".

The creamy lipstick can be subtle with one layer or bold with multiple layers.

Alternative to YSL Lipsticks

This is my first time using YSL, and I plan to only use them occasionally. I like to glance at the ingredient list of my beauty product, and for these two little tubes, the list looks pretty long and daunting. Yet for once in a while glam, they work well for me.

For everyday, I would use more natural lipsticks available on the market. I have tried Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick, which is also very pigmented like YSL but I found it smudges easily on my lips. Too bad it wasn't for me, but it may be for you. There is also the creamy ILIA Multi-Stick that I tried and loved for light makeup look (my review here).

Another tinted lip balm I like for everyday use and am currently carrying in my purse is Laneige Stained Glow Lip Balm. I bought it from YesStyle’s beauty shop, and you can use my code LVNPETITE at check out for extra discounts if you want to give it a try.
